1st Page on Google

We have all entered our name on Google to see what happens. Just 4 or 5 years ago I was on the first page, due to my membership of Kenilworth Runners. They have had a web presence for around ten years now, so all the races I had run in was being picked up by Google. Now though, I don’t think I’m even on the first 10 pages – I’m not sure because I got bored looking.

I have discovered though that there are a lot of John McNally’s, all of whom have achieved more than me, so they deserve to be in the hall of fame. The only one I knew about previously was the bass player in the Searchers, but there are also war heros and an Olympic boxing silver medalist.

Having  joined John Thornhill’s Masterclass I was advised to register my name as a domain. Johnmcnally was gone so I settled for www. johnmcnally54.com which was the year I was born. I was hoping that this domain would improve my page ranking, but does anyone know if having ’54′ on the end would affect this?

Anyway, I noticed that my name is not on my blog header, so all my posts were anonymous. I have now edited the posts leaving  John McNally at the bottom; will repeating my name so often improve my Google ranking? Also, as I am new to blogging I am not sure of the etiquette, is this bad form? I would appreciate any advice.

PS. Has anyone noticed that I have now started asking questions, as a sneaky attempt to get comments? :O)

  1. Hi John, in answer to your question, I don’t know whether signing your blog posts with your name will help, but I don’t think it’ll hurt. I certainly sign mine. I’ve just looked at Johns and he doesn’t. You may want to ask the same question on the forum, as you’ll get a better response from there.

    Good luck, Barry wells

  2. Hello Barry,
Thanks for your observations. I don't think John signs because he has his name on the blog header. Incidentally, I like your header it's very effective. I haven't joined the forum yet, but will do now; see you there.
    Best wishes for your business,

    John

  3. Yeah, I’ve noticed some questions at the end of your articles, pretty clever move. :) I don’t think putting your name on your blog posts will help much but it won’t harm your blog so I guess it’s worth a shot. Don’t worry I’m sure you’ll get higher on the page rankings soon, if you keep on working on your blog. Good luck John!

Thanks Mitch, I’ve just checked and my name is still number one on Google, beating John McNally from the Searchers pop group. I’m not sure whether signing my name to each blog post helps, but as you said it can’t do any harm.
