Making Money with Blog Posts

Treasure ChestWriting blog posts can be fun, especially if you only write about subjects that interest you. However, you could also make money while enjoying yourself, so you may as well optimise your article to enhance the money-making possibilities.

Following on  from my Affiliate Marketing post, I will look at ways to make money from my hobby – Silver Surfer 1collecting American super-hero comics. I already have affiliate links for two comic collecting products that will earn me 50% or 60% of each sale.

I also have created a new website to sell my Marvel Comics, so I will want to link my article to that as well. Before jumping in with my blog post and writing anything that comes to mind, it’s always worth doing some keyword research.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

affiliate-marketingWikipedia defines affiliate marketing as; “A method of promoting web businesses where an affiliate is rewarded for every sale through their efforts.”

The good news is that you can become an affiliate for just about anything that interests you, and the rewards can be very high. :-)

As a Travel Agent I worked for just a 10% share of the holiday price. With affiliate marketing you can forget low margins like this, normally you can find products clickbank logothat give you 50% or even more. So affiliate marketing is very profitable. It is also very interesting…..

Scotland’s Biking Heaven

cyclists welcome‘Scotland’s Biking Heaven’ is how the Galloway tourist board describe the region, and it’s not just hyperbole. I have just spent a week in Newtown Stewart, which borders the Galloway forest, after hearing that it had been officially designated as a ‘Dark Sky Park’. (It has the lowest light pollution in Europe, which means it’s a star gazers delight).

Unfortunately star gazing in June is a waste of time because it doesn’t get dark until 11pm and even then the sky has a blue tinge to it. Dawn is 4am, so you have a very short window for star gazing. If it’s a cloudy day you can forget it.

Low Fat Diets – The Downside

Low Fat CartoonThere are still some diet gurus out there pushing low fat, and even no fat diets.  The problem with this approach to weight loss is that our bodies do need fats of all kinds to survive.

Even if you are on a completely vegetarian diet you still need these fats, as eating too many carbohydrates will make your body acidic.

Without the right types of fats, you can have bacteria, yeasts and molds multiplying in your body.  Your body tissues become dry.  Blood will not move through your veins and cholesterol and arterial plaque are more likely to stick to your artery walls.

Internet Marketing for Newbies

newbieEnglish has become ‘de facto’ the world’s preferred language for international communication. One of the reasons for this is it’s flexibility and adaptability.

New words are constantly evolving and being incorporated into the language. ‘Newbie’ is a recent addition that I first came across in the field of Internet Marketing.

I have only been involved with Internet Marketing for two years, so anything that had ‘Newbie’ in the title attracted my attention. I liked the term because it implied that I had minimal knowledge (which was true), and that the book would be easy to read, as it wouldn’t use terms and concepts that a ‘Newbie’ couldn’t understand….Great. :-)

Marathon Second Chance

There are many unique aspects to running a marathon, one of them is that you don’t get a second chance.  :-( After spending 4 to 6 months training to a peak for marathon race day, if anything goes wrong, with illness, injury, pacing, or you just have a bad day, that’s it – you can’t run it again.

It takes a month to recover from a marathon, then you need to rebuild your training to peak for another race. In practical terms that means 6 months later, so you can only race two fast marathons in a year. Many elite runnners only peak for one marathon every 12 months.second-chance

Royal Albert Hall

Anyone in the UK should try and visit the Royal Albert Hall, London, at least once. The building alone is worth seeing, but to really appreciate it you should attend a concert.

The ‘Classical Spectacular’ I attended was on Sunday 21st March 2010. The ticket prices were £50 and worth every penny. This review is not just historical, the Classical Spectaculars are regular events that are held at least twice a year, the next being between

18th and 21st November 2010.Albert Hall, London

Living to 100

One of my ambitions is to get the Queen’s telegram. (UK nationals get a “Happy Birthday” telegram from the Queen, when reaching 100 years of age).

My favourite hobbies are; reading, music and drinking beer. Apparently one of those hobbies isn’t quite as healthy as the others. ;-)

In the UK our government recommends drinking no more than 21 ‘units’ of alcohol per week for men – that’s only 10 and a half pints of beer. :-(   I’m sorry Mr Government Man but that’s not enough for me, I drink on average double that amount. The Queen's 100th Birthday Telegram

BACKUP your Computer NOW!

Emergency BackupComputers are like cars, they have improved a lot in recent years and very rarely crash or break down. Surprisingly, computers are also like cars as they both have moving parts that will eventually wear out.

hard-drive-fireYour computer hard drive is an advanced piece of technology, which also happens to be a disc spinning at around 10,000 revolutions per minute. Unfortunately, one day that disc will refuse to spin, -  THAT’S the day you lose all your data.

SKIES with Light POLLUTION

Light-Pollution-EuropeWhen looking at the night sky it’s always best to get to the darkest place possible, away from street lights and other light pollution. Your eyes also need to adapt to the darkness, and this takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Pitch black surroundings are best, so you will need a small torch with you to see more earthly things. :-)  Cover the torch up with some red cellophane, and this will keep your eyes in the correct night vision mode. (This is the same principal that traditional photographers use in their ‘Dark Room’).
