42 Year Search Solved by Google in 42 seconds
1967 was the ‘summer of love’, the Beatles had released Sgt. Pepper and had a number one hit that encapsulated the spirit of the times, with “all you need is love”.
I was a 13 year old teenager completely immersed in the music and psychedelia of the time, so when I heard that the Beatles were going to release psychedelic posters of themselves, I couldn’t wait to get hold of them.
The day the posters were released I went into my local branch of WH Smith Newsagents, and found them – trouble is they were expensive; 10/6 (or 52.5p in new money). No problem, I would save up my newspaper round money and get them later.
When I had saved 10/6 I went back to Smith’s but they were gone. In fact all the posters, all over the country, sold out the day they were released.
I have been trying to get hold of those posters ever since. After 42 years I had still not succeeded, and even getting psychedelic reproductions was difficult. I must have around 30 to 40 books on the Beatles, but none of them have a good image of the posters.
I have been using Google Images a lot for my blog, so I entered “Psychedelic Beatles Posters” and there they are! Page one, no problem.
If you want a photo, drawing, painting or artwork of any kind go to Google and click ’Images’ at the top of the screen. Google then only searches for the relevant artwork…….Finally I had the John Lennon photo that I wanted to paint onto canvas, and here is my (unfinished) version:

I so admire your ability, John. You are a great copy artist.
Enjoy the journey.
Mandy
Thanks Mandy. I reckon if I keep copying enough images, I will eventually develop my own style and become a proper artist. John[Reply]
Hi John,
I totally agree with Mandy! You are a VERY talented artist indeed
Can’t wait for you to bring your treasures to the auction world!
Many Thanks,
Svenja
Thanks Svenja, It's amazing what effect positive encouragement can have - crowd support really does make a difference in the last miles of a marathon.
Comments such as yours have got me painting again, something I really enjoy, but have neglected for years. Best wishes for your eBay business. John[Reply]
Hey thats spooky – number 42 again
42 is indeed spooky. As the Judge said to Alice (in Wonderland); "Rule 42, anyone over a mile high must leave the Courtroom." John[Reply]
That looks like some kind of abstract painting to me, just so perfect with hidden meanings, unfinished yet so perfect. Beatles is still my favorite so I thoroughly enjoyed reading this post.

I didn’t realise I posted an unfinished painting, I completed this ages ago.I might submit the finished painting in another post.
I was worried about the eyes as it was an intricate psychedlic effect, so I left that until last. In the end I was pleased with the way the painting turned out. You could see the finished version on my website; http://www.popartoilpaintings.com
I’m glad that as a Beatles fan you enjoyed this post Mitch.
