Clockwork Orange – Original oil painting for Sale
My first completed painting is an opening scene from the film Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick. Alex and his ‘Droogs’ are out looking for trouble, and unfortunately find a tramp sleeping in the subway. I won’t describe what happens next, but those of you who have seen the film know.
I’ve always thought this to be a powerful image, with Kubrick filming from inside the subway looking out. This produces the extended shadows and contrast between dark and light.
I’m quite pleased with the way the painting has turned out. I used different colours to those originally intended, but orange being the dominant colour is appropriate and effective. The painting measures 20″ x 16″ and has been completed in oils,on canvas stretched over a wooden frame.
Many artists have switched to acrylic paints as they dry quicker. However I prefer using traditional oils as they offer deeper colours and are more permanent. I am setting up a website to accept payments, and once this is ready I will include links to it. I intended to offer my original paintings at prices comparable to prints, so Clockwork Orange will be for sale at £47.

Hi John, The picture looks good. The subway scene was filmed in Aylesbury, where i come from. A very small claim to fame ha ha.
I noticed that you have our photos on your side bar, with our names and a number appearing when we hover over them. What does the number indicate?
Regards, Barry

I didn't know the subway was in Aylesbury, thanks for that Barry...The numbers over the photos are total comments made. (That's why Mandy has 4,658).

Ha ha ha! And I was going to leave a nice comment!
Actually I still will. Love the painting, John. Can’t believe you only want £47 for an original! You’re too cheap!
Enjoy the journey.

I want some sales Mandy, before I can raise my prices. Having already completed one Clockwork Orange, I think I could do more quite quickly. But yes, £47 is a bargain.

Oh, and I forgot to say, if you are at a loose end tomorrow and/or Friday we need help in South Wales (see my blog!!). Thick gloves and wellies required.
Enjoy the journey.

Sorry I can't make it Mandy. Thursday I have a regular commitment coaching at the running track, and friday I'm at a funeral. Great blog post though; good luck with saving the horses. John[Reply]
that movie is a classic, that is an amazing painting, brings back memories.
Thanks George. Kubrick is my favourite film Director. Although Clockwork Orange is very violent, it is also a powerful artistic statement. John[Reply]
Hiya’ John
Just been catching up with your entries – haven’t you been busy. I agree with Mandy £47 is far too cheap – how have you costed this. See you tomorrow
Mike
I didn't cost it, I made it up.
I will price these paintings cheaply at first to get some sales, and gain confidence for myself that there is actually a market for this. Although Clockwork Orange took quite a long time to paint, now I have done it I will be able to reproduce the same image quite quickly. I hope you're thirsty tomorrow, we've got a lot of catching up to do.

Agree that using oils over acrylics gives you a much richer painting, along with the added benefit of texture.

I was in a rush recently so I tried acrylics, and it’s rubbish. You might as well use Dulux house paint. I won’t touch acrylic paint again. Oils equals quality, and that’s what I’m trying to achieve.
John
PS. I have just sold this painting to a friend down the pub.
