Hidden Gems for eBay
I recently wrote a post about a religious problem that has puzzled me for ages. When I looked for further information about the crappy paperback that raised the problem, I was astonished to see that the cheapest price on Amazon was £44!!

The only reason I still have this paperback is because I find it impossible to throw books away. But unknown to me this bit of pulp fiction I bought in a junk shop in the 1970s is out of print, and I suppose because of Dan Brown and the popularity of “The Da Vince Code”, conspiracy theories are back in fashion.
This made me wonder what other hidden gems I might have lurking on my bookshelves. Here’s a random selection of books I thought might also be valuable with the Amazon sale price:
£15- ’Behind the Flying Saucer Mystery’ by George Adamaski (1967)
£20- ‘Fischer-Spassky Move by Move’ by Larry Evans (1973)
£35 – ‘ The Silver Surfer’ by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby (1978)
£44 - ‘The Jesus Scroll’ by Donavon Joyce (1972 – out of print)
£78 – ‘Secrets Behind the Comics’ by Stan Lee (1994 – Limited edition)
Take a look around your attic, or on your bookshelves, you never know what hidden gems may be lurking there. One person’s bit of junk is another persons antique or collectible item.
I haven’t sold anything on eBay yet, but I’ve suddenly realised I have a house full of stock.

Hey John,
It’s crazy how some items sell on ebay for ridiculous prices.
I once knew of a guy, in oz I think, who used to buy ebooks from ebay.com and resell them on ebay.au for double the price!
Crazy stuff, Sally

That’s a good system Sally.
I suppose it all comes down to supply and demand. The ‘Jesus Scroll’ paperback is out of print, but there is a high demand, which creates a ridiculous (but lovely) selling price.
eBay here I come…..

Hi John
Like yourself I have stacks of books, well over 200, and I decided to try and sell some on Amazon. I listed 10 in July and last week sold my first one, not a fortune but a nice feeling non the less.
I doubled my money on it so was quite pleased. Personally I prefer Amazon to Ebay as they have no listing fees, so if it doesn’t sell there are no charges.
Regards
Bill

I don’t need many excuses to do nothing Bill, but the eBay listings fee is one reason I haven’t sold anything on ebay yet.
Selling 1 out of 10 sounds good to me, a 10% return would earn you millions in direct mail.
I will probably start with eBay, then have a look at Amazon. In theory I’m 12 months ahead of you Bill, but you seem to have got a lot more done.
Hope you got loads of visitors in the challenge.

I think you are definitely way ahead of me John with all the sites you have produced, your blogging experience and now article writing.
Although I have plenty of ideas, I suffer from manana, whether it’s an age thing or not I don’t know. I suspect it’s more likely to be that I am in a comfort zone and no longer feel the need to chase the money.
I am still behind in the 100 challenge but have been having a break visiting some of my favourite blogs. Well done on completing your own 100.
Regards
Bill

I know what you mean about not chasing the money Bill, that’s how I’ve been ever since my Divorce, and closing my business down. My retirement funds are running low now though, so I might have to start working a bit soon.
