Royal Albert Hall

Anyone in the UK should try and visit the Royal Albert Hall, London, at least once. The building alone is worth seeing, but to really appreciate it you should attend a concert.

The ‘Classical Spectacular’ I attended was on Sunday 21st March 2010. The ticket prices were £50 and worth every penny. This review is not just historical, the Classical Spectaculars are regular events that are held at least twice a year, the next being between

18th and 21st November 2010.Albert Hall, London

What do you get for £20 to £50? Well, first of all there’s the Albert Hall. You have to be inside it, to appreciate how wonderful a building it is. Then you have the musicians: The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Choral Society, the English Concert Chorus, the Band of the Welsh Guards and Muskets and Cannons of the Moscow Militia. If that sounds good, I can assure you it is. :-)

Classical Spectacular is a series of concerts which mixes the ‘greatest hits’ of classical music, with a ‘Last Night at the Proms’ atmosphere. Fanfare for the Common Man, the Planets Suite, Pomp and Circumstance, Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and the 1812 Overture is just a sample of the evenings music.

The dress is casual, and it’s a good time party atmosphere helped by the comedic introductions to each piece by the conductor John Rigby.Royal-Albert-Hall

The Albert Hall website has a useful feature where you can see the view of the orchestra from the seats you choose. This eliminates a lot of the worry when visiting a new venue. Why not check it out now?

PS. The concert also includes lasers, indoor fireworks, muskets, cannons and balloons.  :-)

  1. Hey John,

I have been to London a million times, half my Mum’s family live there.

And you know what, I have never been to the Albert Hall!

It does like nice in the photo, so maybe I will give it a little visit next time I am down in that neck of the woods, Sally :)

You won’t regret it Sally, it’s a wonderful venue. The Albert Hall isn’t just for classical concerts, you can enjoy a variety of musical experiences……I’ve just checked – Van Morrison, Ocean Colour Scene, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and the Bootleg Beates are all coming this year. :-)

  4. Hi John, I have been to a concert there, it really is a splendid as you say and well worth the money. Just a little bit of history for you, when it was built the project finished under budget and before time! Oh weren’t those days different!

    Enjoy the journey.

That’s amazing Mandy. Under budget, and before time, why can’t we do that now? Has the 21st century really progressed?
