The Execution of Gary Glitter
My position on the Death Penalty is clear; I’m against it.
Although I’m an atheist, I believe all human life is ‘sacred’, mainly on the atheistic belief that this life is all we have, so we should preserve it for as long as possible.
Interestingly in the UK ,whenever a poll is conducted on the reintroduction of the death penalty, a majority of the British public indicate they are in favour.
Last week I watched a fascinating TV ‘mockumentary’ on “The Execution of Gary Glitter”, where an alternative Britain has reintroduced the Death Penalty for paedophillia. In this parallel world, a referendum was held after the shocking Soham child murders by Ian Huntley in 2002.
The performance of Hilton McRae as Paul Gadd (Gary Glitter) was a powerful tour de force, that could have been nominated for an Oscar had this been a full-blown film.
I don’t give anything away by revealing that Gary Glitter is brought to trial under new death penalty laws, and after being found guilty, hanged within 30 days of the sentence. “To avoid the mental cruelty of spending years on Death Row.”
During the trial, the ‘mockumentary’ filmed baying mobs of people outside the court screaming for his death. This is why I’m against the death penalty; – it debases the society we live in.
If we accept taking human life is morally wrong, how can State sponsored killing be justified? Anyone who has hate in their heart, would have an outlet and target for their hatred. This doesn’t do them, or the society they live in, any good at all.
