The Secret to Losing 5 Stone
This is the world’s worst kept secret. Everyone trying to lose weight knows this, but many people choose to ignore it. So let’s remind ourselves; Exercise will burn up the excess pounds. I lost 5 stone through exercise and have kept it off for over 30 years.
When I was 22 years old I had ballooned up to 15 and a half stone (I am 5′ 10″ tall, so I was medically obese). I was not happy with my body image, so I decided to do something about it. I tried a crash diet called the ‘F Plan’ and started to jog around a field near my home. I thought I was too big to be seen running on the streets!
I lost a stone very quickly, but gave up the F Plan diet - it was too restrictive and was taking the pleasure away from food. I kept running however and the pounds continued to drop off. My only diet was trying to avoid junk food; otherwise I ate what I wanted. Then I found Rosemary Conley’s Hip and Thigh Diet which was basically a low fat diet with exercise. This was perfect for me.
After years of a low fat diet I now have an aversion and dislike of fatty foods. I can’t stomach chips, pastry, pizza or fast food generally. I can and do however eat and drink as much as I like. I have grown to like running, it gets me out in the countryside and being fit makes me feel good.
The bonus is that daily exercise will raise your metabolic rate. I burn up more calories than most people when I am watching the TV or even sleeping! So you can eat and drink as much as you like, as long as you exercise every day……It’s got to be worth considering!

Hi John –
I agree that there are lots of advantages to excercise – not least of which are the health aspects. And exercise is also good for stress relief, which in turn promotes better health.
I personally did not get on with Rosemary Conley but do succeed with low carb diets. I truly believe in the “blood group” concept which talks about the more ancient blood groups (O) having more difficulty digesting and metabolising the “more recent” foodstuffs, such as wheat. Whereas the younger bloodgroups have more tolerance for the wheats but less for the protein/fats.
Interesting stuff.
Cheers!
Susan
Hello Susan,Very interesting comment about blood groups. I haven't come across that before; it does sound logical. My diet is 70% carbohydrate but that is because I run 50 miles per week and need the glycogen.
Good luck with your eBook.
