The Silver Surfer
The Silver Surfer had religious overtones when it was first published. The alien Norrin Radd had offered himself as a sacrifice to save his planet Zenn-La from Galactus – ‘the devourer of worlds’.
Galactus needed to consume living planets in order to survive. However he transformed Norrin Radd into the Silver Surfer to become his herald, finding suitable alternative planets throughout the universe.
When Galactus found the Earth it was so full of vibrant life that it offered an irresistible feast for him. Luckily for us he was unable to consume our planet because the Silver Surfer turned on his master, and fought him to a standstill.

Eventually the Silver Surfer had to sacrifice himself again to save the Earth, this time he sacrificed his freedom to roam the cosmos, when Galactus imposed a force field barrier around the planet. Subsequent stories had the barrier removed, mainly because confining the Silver Surfer to Earth restricted the full potential of universe-wide adventures.
The Surfer has always been my favourite Marvel character, and I’m currently painting a Jack Kirby cover from Fantastic Four #72. I don’t think there is anyone painting these pictures using traditional oils on canvas, and I hope to sell them to comic fans over the Internet. When I have enough paintings completed, I shall create a separate web-site featuring original oil paintings for sale.

Can’t wait for the website, John.
Enjoy the journey.
Mandy
I'm like you Mandy, I out-source techie stuff. I had everything ready, but my website man didn't turn up today.

Hi John,
all I can say is that you MUST sell your artwork
You are a very gifted artist! I feel like a broken record now, but to see the quality of your work is simply moving! I have great respect for artisans like yourself.
Many Thanks,
Svenja
Whew! That's quite humbling Svenja, thanks. I have just completed one painting, and will be putting it up for sale - that's the real test. John[Reply]
Hi John, I’ve just landed on your blog for the first time, and I’m impressed.
There is a lot of interesting stuff to read.
Good luck with the Masterclass course.
Ray.
Thanks Ray, that's very kind. I try and write on a variety of subjects, so hopefully there is something for everyone. Similar to your "My Take on Anything", blog section. Have a good day. John[Reply]
Hi John,
WOW, you really know how to paint these marvel characters, like mandy said can`t wait for the website, you will sell these like hot cakes what with all the die hard fans, and the new generation educated by the latest movies, good luck John!
TTFN….Ed.
Thanks for your enthusiasm Ed, I had the same thoughts. Although comic sales are nowhere near what they were when I was a kid, the films have regenerated the characters into popular culture. John[Reply]
Hi John…
I can’t wait for your website! I love great art and like Svenja have great regard, respect and admiration for anyone who creates it.
Good luck…I’ll be following…

Thanks Kathy. Coincidentally I am having problems with the topic of your latest blog post....outsourcing the creation of my painting website.
