Who’s YOUR Favourite Group?

I like most music, (apart from Jazz obviously), however whenever I am asked I unhesitatingly name my favourite groups as 1) the Beatles 2) Pink Floyd and 3) Led Zepplin. Please leave a short comment with your own favourite group or groups. I have left my own reply so you can see the format.

The groups are undoubtedly a reflection of age. The most powerful musical influences being made during your teenage years and early twenties, when music generally seemed much more important. Unfortunately I am not old enough to have seen the Beatles live, although I have seen Paul McCartney in concert at the NEC Birmingham.

Over the years I have attended many live performances, and the best concert  I have seen was Pink Floyd’s performance of ‘The Wall’ at Earls Court in 1984. I was pleased to hear that when the ‘best concert’  question was posed to Noddy Holder of Slade, he also cited Pink Floyd’s the Wall.

I was also lucky enough to have seen Led Zepplin live in 1971. They were at a relatively small venue called the Locarno in Coventry. During the concert there was an IRA bomb scare and everyone was advised to leave the building. I was only 17 years old and therefore immortal, so I used the opportunity to get a better position to see the stage when the building cleared. Led Zepplin were superb.

Don’t forget;  leave a comment with your favourite group or groups – Thanks.

  2. Hi John,

    Great post.

I guess I’d have to say Abba, The Pretenders and The Communards.

    Enjoy the journey.

  3. Thanks Mandy,
I expected Abba. The Pretenders are a good choice. I must admit I can't remember the Communards!

  4. Hello John,

I have had a good think about this one. I like lots of different types of music, but I would say Abba, The Beatles and The Eagles.

  5. Jimmy Somerville, used to be in Bronski Beat (didn’t much like them). Sarah-Jane Morris was a co-vocalist and I saw them a few times in concert. Really like their sound.

    Enjoy the journey.

  6. Thanks for your choices Margaret,
We now have 2 votes for Abba and 2 for the Beatles.

Good choices Serge; mind you I'm prejudiced, as you picked 2 of my favourites. :-) John
